Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a disease where the tissue that lines the uterus is found in other areas of the body, for example, on the outside of the uterus, ovaries, in or outside of the fallopian tubes, around the bowel, utreters, and bladder, to name a few.
This disease causes crippling pain in a lot of women, and the average length of time for a diagnosis is approximately 8 years.
There are four stages of endometriosis, however a woman with stage four might have little pain, and a woman with stage one or two might have extreme pain. The pain level and symptoms vary for every woman, and the stages are only classifying the amount of endometriosis found, not the level of pain it causes. Adhesions can be found in all four stages, however, they are more dense in the higher stages, and there tends to be more of them. Many times these adhesions attach the organs in the lower abdomen to the abdominal wall or to eachother. Google Endometriosis images
The only way to get an actual diagnosis of endometriosis is through a Laproscopic surgery. During this surgery, the doctor will generally remove the endometriosis that they can by either coagulation or excision. It has been said that excision can be more effective, however, most doctors will use coagulation to remove the endometriosis.
Other than surgery, lots of women have found relief from the pains of endometriosis through natural treatments. Some examples are, diet changes, taking natural herbs, vitamins and other supplements, exercise, and massage to name a few.
Every woman must try a few things to see what is right for her. Since we all are affected differently by endometriosis, we all respond differently to the types of treatment.
We encourage women to do some research and familiarize yourself with the different treatment options. Make sure you are comfortable with the treatment plan advised to you by your doctor. If you are not sure, don’t be afraid to get a second opinion, or consult another type of practitioner like a Naturopath.

*Stages of Endometriosis
The below stages are for the progess of the desease, not for the severity of the pain. A woman with stage one could have less of the desease present, but severe pain and a woman with stage four could have lots of the desease present, but little pain or vice versa.
Stage 1 (Minimal)
Only superficial lesions and possibly a few filmy adhesions
Stage 2 (Mild)
In addition to the above, some deep lesions are present in the cul-de-sac
Stage 3 (Moderate)
As above, plus the presence of endometriomas on the ovary and more adhesions
Stage 4 (Severe)
As above, plus large endometiomas and extensive adhesions
